Science Week -STEM

13th Mar 2020

Our challenge today was to find the most suitable material to make a coat to wear in Antarctica.  The children selected their own materials and created a ‘coat’ and placed the ‘coat’ around a pot of warm water.  They placed the tubs in the fridge for an hour.  After an hour the tubs were taken out of the fridge and the temperature of the water recorded.  From these results we were able to conclude which material was the best for a coat i.e. the best thermal insulator.  The children identified many of the ways we ensured the test was ‘fair’.

The children enjoyed finding out about the extreme conditions on Antarctica using iPads.
