Celebrating Down Syndrome Day 2025 🧦

21st Mar 2025

We had a wonderful time celebrating similarities and differences and increasing our understanding of what Down Syndrome is. We began our learning with a treasure hunt of our classmates and finding others with the same interests as us. We then talked about these similarities and differences and learned about why it’s okay to be different to others and that’s what makes us unique and individual.

We then learned about what causes Down Syndrome and how although children with Down Syndrome share some physical characteristics, they still look more like their families than each other. We tried explaining things with our thumbs in our mouths and writing with the hand we don’t usually write with, covered by a sock, to see how much extra effort it took, emphasising how children with Down Syndrome have to work very hard at some things, just like we do.   We created some collaborative word art to show what we learned about Down Syndrome.

What a special day to celebrate uniqueness and learn what it means to be inclusive!
