First Holy Communion 2020

21st Aug 2020

The Primary 4 class of 2020 received the Sacrament of the Eucharist this evening in St Eugene’s Church, Moneyneena. We were delighted to see you all together again and congratulations to you all! We are truly so proud of your active participation in the mass - you all remained reverent and prayerful throughout, and read, sang and took part in the processions so beautifully.  May God continue to bless you, our First Holy Communicants, and your families in the months and years ahead.

On this day, as always, we remember our beautiful angel Gracie-Mae who would have so proudly received the Sacrament with you all this evening.  We are so blessed to have her looking down on us from above, and we continue to keep Gracie-Mae and her family in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you to Fr Madden and Fr Downey for the beautiful mass, to the class teachers Mrs Bannon and Mrs Devlin for their meticulous work in preparing the children so well even in these challenging times, and to the sacristan Mrs Margaret Kelly and the Church team for preparing the chapel and ensuring that it was safe for this special occasion.  We extend our thanks to Mrs Caroline O’Hagan for her work in leading the “Do This in Memory” programme, and to Mrs Michelle McKenna and Mrs Clare Kennedy, who have all worked so diligently throughout the year to prepare all of the Primary 4 children in the Parish of Ballinascreen.  We are blessed to have this wonderful programme, which deepens the links between home, school and parish as the P.4 children prepare for First Penance and First Holy Communion.  Finally, our thanks to you, the parents, who we know have worked very hard to help your children get ready to receive the Sacrament.  In the words of Fr Madden earlier, you are your child’s “first and best educator”, a phrase which has become even more apparent in recent months!

And of course, we give our sincere thanks to Mrs Marie Molloy and Mrs Moira Kelly for preparing and performing the sensational music liturgy, which enhanced the Mass and prayerful ambience immeasurably.

The entire ceremony was recorded and the DVDs will be for sale shortly.  We will keep you informed of this via the SchoolsNI app.

Boys and Girls, we hope you enjoyed your special evening and continue to grow in faith. May you always know the peace of Jesus and the light of his love, in your heart, in your mind, and in your actions.
